About Craig L. Olson, MD
Craig L. Olson, MD, received his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago and completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center. Dr. Olson is also fellowship trained in shoulder and sports medicine.
Dr. Olson’s interest in orthopedics is a result from a time earlier in life when he required orthopedic care. During his medical school training, it was clear to Dr. Olson that orthopedics was a unique area in medicine; he is inspired by its ability to change and improve each patient’s quality of life, which was an important reason why he chose this specialty.
When treating patients, Dr. Olson wants to get to know each person in his care. He feels as if every patient is a friend or family member and wants them to be treated as such. He asks patients to "tell me a story" about their orthopedic issues to help discover the root of their problem. His top priority is that patients feel comfortable, ask any questions they have and receive answers to those important questions to make informed decisions.
Dr. Olson is most rewarded when he helps a patient with a difficult orthopedic problem. After seeing the negative impact on the patient's life, Dr. Olson strives to make a significant change, return the patient to normal activity, and, of course, restore happiness to their life.
Prior to becoming a Board Certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Olson was an engineer. He has a passion for all things mechanical and believes the lessons he learns through his hobbies can correlate with his job as a surgeon.
