For any type of surgery, BayCare Clinic Anesthesiologists and CRNAs are part of the surgical team, partnering with the surgeons to provide safe, effective care. CRNAs administer anesthesia, overseen by an Anesthesiologist who is helping manage patient safety.

Anesthesia expertise

Our Anesthesiology Specialists supervise over 13,000 procedures requiring anesthesia yearly, assisted by state-of-the-art equipment and the latest surgical interventions.

In fact, we're spearheading some of the best new anesthesia options around. Our specialists pioneered the use of the Lumbar Laminectomy under Single Shot Epidurals as well as several industry-leading catheter procedures.

Pediatric anesthesia

A Pediatric Anesthesiologist has a special interest in children and pediatric medicine. Pediatric Anesthesiologists take care of children of all ages and understand a child's special needs. Their goal is to provide safe conditions during surgery, limit your child's anxiety, and manage pain after surgery.

OB/GYN anesthesia

The OB team at Aurora BayCare Medical Center rely on BayCare Clinic's Anesthesiologists to provide anesthesia care for births when needed. Our anesthesia team is involved in more than 1200 deliveries a year. To ensure prompt care to patients, a Board Certified Anesthesiologist and a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist are available in the hospital 24 hours a day. All staff Anesthesiologists and CRNAs have extensive experience in OB anesthesia. We offer all current services including epidural anesthesia and a combined epidural-spinal.

Outpatient Anesthesia

Outpatient anesthesia, also known as ambulatory anesthesia, is designed so you can go home soon after surgery. Outpatient anesthesia relies on short-acting anesthetic drugs and specialized anesthetic techniques to provide a safe surgical experience.

Expectations for surgery

The BayCare Clinic anesthesia team is responsible for medical management and anesthetic care of patients throughout the duration of surgery, providing a safe and comfortable experience. The type of anesthesia used is determined by the Anesthesiologist based on the needs of the patient, their medical condition and the requirements of the surgery.

Communication between the Anesthesiologist and patient is vital to the anesthesia process. Patients meet with the Anesthesiologist before surgery to answer questions about their medical history and any medications they are taking.

The Role of CRNAs

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are advanced practice nurses who specialize in anesthesia care. They provide anesthesia under the supervision of Anesthesiologists.

As anesthesia specialists, CRNAs take care of patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. Nurse Anesthetists stay with their patients for the entire procedure, monitoring body function and modifying the anesthetic to ensure maximum safety and comfort.

CRNAs practice in hospital surgical suites, obstetrical delivery rooms and ambulatory surgical centers.
