How often should eye exams be scheduled?
Everyone should have an eye exam at least every two years.
Why are regular eye exams recommended?
Many eye diseases show no symptoms until significant – and sometimes irreversible – damage has been done. Some children pass school vision screenings but may develop vision-related issues that can include headaches and difficulty in reading.
When should children have their first eye exam?
A child’s first eye exam should be just before starting school, or around age 5. If there are specific concerns for a child’s vision, or a family history of child vision issues, please call for an appointment.
What happens at an eye exam?
Eye exams include standard tests to check vision and eye health. Eye exams also screen for glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other underlying health issues.
Should I bring my glasses or contacts to my eye exam?
Yes. By bringing your glasses and contacts to your exam, our staff can determine how they are working for you. Our staff also can compare your vision test results to your existing prescription.
Does medical insurance cover an eye exam?
Our specialists can help determine whether medical insurance will cover an eye exam.
Medical insurance typically will cover an eye exam if there is a medical issue such as cataracts, floaters, dry eye, burning eyes or a family history of vision problems. Let your doctor know if you are experiencing medical eye issues. Otherwise, routine eye exams are covered by vision insurance.
How do I access the 24-hour emergency care?
For urgent eye care outside normal office hours, call 920-327-7000. An on-call physician will help evaluate your needs.
