Jaw surgery can correct a variety of issues
People who may benefit from corrective jaw surgery include those with an improper bite resulting from misaligned teeth and/or jaws, those in whom the upper and lower jaws are growing or have grown at different rates, and those with an injury affecting alignment of the jaw.
Others who may benefit from corrective jaw surgery include those with a receding chin, a protruding jaw, an unbalanced facial appearance from the front, excessive wear of teeth, or other issues.
Treatment often includes orthodontics before and after jaw surgery, and may take several years to complete.
How will my jaw feel after an oral surgery procedure?
Facial muscles and jaw joints may feel tight and sore after surgery. This typically doesn’t last long. Any tightness or soreness should subside as pain and swelling subside.
