Dr. Elizabeth O'Connor, a plastic surgeon with BayCare Clinic, was interviewed by NBC 26 News to promote BRAs of the Bay, an event that helps raise awareness of a federal law mandating insurance coverage of breast reconstruction after breast cancer surgery.
O’Connor’s patient, Kathy Orlowski of Green Bay, also was interviewed for this feature.
Reconstructive surgery plays a crucial role in the recovery process for breast cancer survivors, O’Connor says.
“We talk about breast reconstruction as closing the loop on breast cancer care and it’s really trying to restore the woman back to their daily activities ... our patients tell us that this really makes them feel whole again. They don’t feel like something has been taken from them. And that’s important for us to help our patients get back to their normal life,” she says.
