Thirteen percent of all cosmetic surgery patients in 2020 were men, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Locally, and across the nation, cosmetic procedures and treatments continue to gain popularity among men.
“Men want to look and feel their best as well,” says Dr. Steven C. Schmidt, a plastic surgeon with Plastic Surgery & Skin Specialists by BayCare Clinic. “As technology continues to advance, and surgical procedures move toward more minimally invasive techniques that require less recovery time, it becomes a more viable option for everybody, including men.”
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the top five cosmetic surgical procedures for men in 2020 were:
- Nose reshaping
- Eyelid surgery
- Cheek implant
- Liposuction
- Ear surgery
“We’re seeing an uptick in men wanting these procedures in our practice as well,” Schmidt says.
Minimally invasive and non-surgical procedures among men also are on the rise.
More men are taking advantage of Botulinum Toxin Type A (BOTOX® Cosmetic), laser skin resurfacing, laser hair removal, soft tissue fillers and microdermabrasion, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgery.
CoolSculpting® is another popular non-invasive treatment Dr. Schmidt is seeing more men take advantage of.
“There are a number of areas that can be treated with CoolSculpting, and there’s no downtime at all with that procedure,” Schmidt says.
“It’s becoming more popular, and less taboo, to have cosmetic procedures to help you look and feel your best,” Schmidt says. “More people now consider these procedures for self-care.”
