You can have surgical treatment for some hand and wrist procedures right in the doctor’s office, says Dr. Craig L. Olson, an orthopedic surgeon with Orthopedics & Sports Medicine BayCare Clinic in Manitowoc.
“This procedure is simple and patients really are very pleased with their results,” Olson said during a Facebook live event. “They heal up quick. They get back to the stuff they want to do. … and our office-based procedure is significantly less expensive.”
Common hand and wrist conditions include carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger and ganglion cyst. All three can be treated in the office, Olson says.
Health insurance coverage isn’t an issue when it comes to in-office hand and wrist procedures, Olson says.
“We have not seen a case not get covered. Even workman’s comp cases are covered. … All major insurances have actually been thankful that we’re doing it the way we’re doing it.”
